Oh, the city does have an ordinance that imposes a $25 fine after three false alarms, but police say no company ever gets billed and there isn't any way to collect the money. To which we say, "huh?"
Surely, if Kingston can collect $50 from a business after the third false alarm and get its money while cutting down on the false alarms Brockton can do it. And Taunton just fined Loomis Fargo $300 for a series of false alarms, one of 11 companies fined last month.
But Brockton Lt. Wayne Sargo said it would take a $15,000 software package and the hiring of a clerk to collect fines in the city. He said the system would pay for itself, but we're not convinced all that technology and manpower is necessary to know which companies are chronic callers of false alarms.
